What matters most? Sometimes I get caught up in stupid and forget.

My granddaughter and I have a few little things we do that we just between us. Silly things, that for some reason happen and develop into a special endearment or activity. One of these things is saying I love you . When my daughter and I picked up our Cree princess, I promised out loud to love her FOREVER. We have relayed the story to her, and now, each time I tell her i love her she looks says, FOREVER right? And I say Yes, FOREVER. It warms our hearts.
Another thing we do, came from a story I madeup , with my limited knowledge of Cree culture, when we were on a walk. It was about the ancient Cree that lived on the river bank we were walking. She stopped me and asked what cree princess she could be. What princess do you want to be I ask. I will be princess "Rivertoes "she said, as she was barefoot and dipping her toes at the time. And so the tradition began. She always comes up with a cree princess name when we are together. The days she doesn't want pigtails she is Princess "Flowing Hair". Her names describe her activities, her moods and her dreams. Princess "Digging in the garden," Princess "I'm as big as the sky", Princess "Sparkling Eyes" and even Princess "I don't want to be a princess I just want to watch a movie". It's a thing we do.
When I think of these things I know that all my memories of people who have meaning in my life are of these little "things," the intimate special moments and traditions that connect lives FOREVER.

How incredibly lovely. I think you should write a children's book about this ritual.

I have always wanted to write and illustrate children's books. I love reading them, collecting them and sharing them. Perhaps in the future I will attempt to publish. I will dedicate it to all my blog mates, who I have found out, are all parents trying to do the right thing.
