What a weekend. This weekend was Hockey Provincials so we have spent since Friday, 5:30 am in the arena. One trip to the emergency. We didn't make it to the finals, but the kids had a great weekend. Being one of the best eight teams in the province is quite an accomplishment for our little ragtag team.
Another trip to the emergency, which is the third hockey related injury since November. ( broken collar bone, concussion)This time, it was after the game, and he was accidently hit hard in the eye with a stick. We have an appointment with a specialist at 7;30 am tommorrow, and were given strict instructions to keep him inactive and quiet until then. Having not provided a straight jacket, or sedative I'm not sure how they expect me to do this. He is an eleven year old boy, who is only still , and never quiet, when he is sleeping. When he sleeps his little body is so exhausted that it doesn't move for 8 hours straight, and then he opens his eyes and bounds out of bed to do it all again.
His two best friends are here to watch over him, they were so concerned. Rented movies and popcorn. War stories.
Gotta go. I hear him moving.

Sedatives or narcotic analgesics are contraindicated for any head injury. Honestly though, medical advice for concussions is often overly cautious. Anything from the neck up always is. It's as much for their protection as yours...maybe even more so. Even if he moves around a bit, he'll probably be fine. His body will tell him when he's not. Beware sudden onsets of dizziness, altered LOC (level of consiousness)or vision problems that come and go. I've had quite a few concussions. Most times, I felt alot better long before people quit pampering me. It'll be a cool war story for him to tell later.
OH give him the bottle of Rye and let hime go to town. Keep him quiet for awhile. (JUST JOKING)
I hope his eye is ok. I'mnot sure How I would handle a housefull of boys. Scarey.
