Art Appreciation 101:
Thru the eyes of
Hoi Polloi
*I often laugh when I hear debates on what was the artists intent. I believe the artists intent is always to move ...to stir, ..to provoke... ...artists create from within, and we see it through our own eyes. What does this picture invoke for you....
Hope's Study # 1

I adore this series of pictures, by C Coolige ,which were made into cheap prints and hung proudly in my grannie's house. When I was a little girl, they facinated me.I used to study them, they had rich detail and colour.I used to delight in their absurdity.... I would compare dogs , give them all names, and of course, little lives.
When I see this picture I remember my grannie, and the smells of her cooking, and tiny finger and nose prints on the glass.
I found out as an adult that my younger brother was terrified of these prints. I was stunned.... he said, "think of it, dogs, playing poker? , that's plain creepy".
His opinion has not diminished my love for it.

Sometimes, upon coming home to find that the dog has caused some type of "interesting" destruction where I wonder how the hell he accomplished it with no opposable thumbs, I will think of this photo. And then I picture them waiting for you to leave, then stand upright, crack a beer out of the fridge, kick back in the recliner and watch some tube while waiting for the neighborhood mutts to arrive for a little poker. Car drives up, mutts clear out, dog goes back on all fours and resumes acting "canine" and sniffs the wifes crotch as she walks in the door...Husband is summarily blamed for the mess of chips beer and cigars.
love it!
perhaps I've been blamin the wrong animals!
I happen to like the dog painting. It takes a creative mind to come up with such a painting! Of course you are talking with someone who loves painting! So maybe all artists are crazy!
