Today, I drove my son to his school for the last day, the very last time at this precious little school.
And I cried.
Yes my son thinks I'm a sap, and I am, but leaving this little school feels like leaving family behind.
It is a little rural school, 5 acres of playground space, ice rink, basketball courts, ball diamonds, soccer field, playground equipment all lovingly supplied and maintained by the community. Grades K to 6, 93 students, 14 in my son's class.
It is a school that loves and honors children, each child recognized for their uniqueness, but held to high standards of behaviour and citizenship.
And today is his last day there.
Awards night was last night. 14 students honored and over 300 people in the audience. Family and community all drawn together to honor it's kids.
I wrote a post a while ago about my son always receiving the sportsmanship award, in the sports he plays, but it still surprised me when he was voted by all staff and students in the school as most Congenial Student, and has his name forever engraved on a memorial trophy in the handmade display case of the school.
And yep, I cried.

AWWW - that is so sweet. Sounds like you have a paradise there. I am officially jealous! I don't blame you for crying with pride and sadness over leaving the school.

Wow! My kids have been out of school since May 18th! When do you guys start school, October? Does it have anything to do with the climate?

Start school Sept 5th, two months off for summer, 2 weeks at Christmas, yes we call it CHRISTMAS holidays and a week off at Easter, probably is climate related as we don't have to flee the heat like you would.

for us, it's start at the end of August just in time to take a long weekend break over labor day, then a winter break over Thanksgiving (which is officially hunting--but they call it winter break) then Christmas Break (we call it that too!) and an attempt at Easter break which is almost always taken away from us because of snow days and out beginning to mid June depending on the amount of snow days taken.

Enjoy your summer with the kids Hope.
