I heard a lawyer today describe a blog as a "personal diary",
much like the journal you keep in your desk drawer.
He described it this way in the context of
a person being fired for the content of their blog.

I keep a journal.
I have since I received a diary for Christmas when I was young.
Handwritten scrawling,
deepest, most private expressions of my moment in time.

It is nothing like my blog.

Although I consider my blog somewhat anonymous,
I certainly do not consider it private.

So it got me thinking.

Do you consider your blog a private diary?
Would you write something in your blog that you consider "private"?
Have you ever regretted posting something on your blog?

Much to my dismay, this also has brought back
early marriage memories of my husband reading
my private journal. Once.
Very, very bad situation.
It changed our relationship forever.
But we survived.
By mutual agreement and necessity,
I now have an off limits space.
The thoughts I feel I need to write down
are safe there.
That is what I consider private.

In today's world, that's about the most privacy I can hope for.

I don't keep a diary anymore. I can't remember when I stopped but it was probably when I was in high school or went off to college. My parents remodeled their house and got rid of all my stuff, so they probably read it. Hmmm, I hadn't thought about that possibility until now.

I don't think I have ever written anything I regret. I'm sure I would have heard about it if I had!

And there are certain things that are just off limits. No ifs ands or buts about it!!

I don't consider my blog private at all, and as I try to keep things as anonymous as possible, I haven't really regretted anything I've written.

And, as personal as I can be on the blog, it isn't like a diary AT All to me.

I agree with Gina. My blog is not private. I am very aware that people read it. In fact, that has kept me from writing about more personal things, but the anonymous part has helped me express things I've wanted to. So all in all it is a fair trade off.

I had a journal growing up, but don't write in one now. I've tried, but I now find it pretty tough to actually spill out those most private thoughts.

I do not consider my blog private. It is out there for the world to see.

I used to keep a handwritten journals, well hidden and secret but I burned them about 5 years ago. Long story behind it. I do not keep anymore handwritten journals but I do have a password protected journal on my PC.

Given my own circumstances, I don't consider it private anymore, but at one point it did seem that way to me.
