A while ago I posted a list, and while I got some of them solved, and just got plain old bored with others, there is one thing still really bugging me.
Why do they have different types of screw heads?
You've got the one's with 1 groove, one's with the square and the ones with the "x". It doesn't make sense to me. All it means is that you have to change drill bits all the time, to accommodate the various heads.
I ask this question to every carpenter I meet. They all tell me variations of who invented each screw head, but when I ask them , "So wouldn't it make sense and be easier just to have one type, different sizes but one shape?" They all kind of agree, but no one has done anything about it. Couldn't we just agree on one and throw all those other bits away?
I'd vote for the "x" one, can't remember who invented it.

The phillips head. :D
Im all for the x one too. You get better purchase. That said you can fashion a screwdriver out of allmost anything for the flathead screws. Its a tricky one.
Havent blogged for a while casue my computer died. Got it fixed now. Thankyou for your comment.
There are also several kinds of mouse traps, beer, cars and snow blowers . Aint capitalism/choice great:o)?
Phillips all the way. I hate the slot kind.
I was just bitchin' about slot head screws this weekend. I hate'em the damned screwdriver won't stay in the head of the screw and I got a nice cut to prove it. I agree, Phillips only.
