We all know that stereotypes contain some elements of truth. Then they get misunderstood and generalized. With all the hateful stereotypes that go around in the world, Canadians get off really lucky. And to quote Forrest Gump "That's all I'm gonna say about that" (for now).
That's not the direction my thoughts are going.
I want to share with you a little about my life, me and my family.
We never lock our doors or windows, and we don't have an alarm system.
At home, our cars are left, unlocked, with keys in the ignition. All the time.
We've lived here since 1989 and have never had anything stolen.
We fill our gas tanks before we pay, unless we'd like to pay at the pump. It's our choice.
I leave my handbag unattended in my shopping cart, and it's never been stolen.
I've lost my wallet twice in the last 5 years, and it's been returned, within 24 hours, intact.
My son attends a rural school, with 93 students. Grades K thru 6. 12 great staff.
We have a boy.He plays hockey. We are in and out of emergency within 90 minutes.
My son has two best friends. We provide back up families for each other.
When I was ill a few years back, our home was full of food and support, and our rural family just took right over til I was back on my feet. Our family was on 4 prayer lists that I know of, and I don't go to church.
I have a large freezer full of meat, all raised within 10 km from where I lived, all purchased from the people who raised it.
I look to the N/S/E/W of us, and see river ,trees, hills, deer and yes, even beaver.
I do believe that's pretty close to God's Country.

Wow, do you have room for a woman and her son? ha ha I have never been to Canada, but I hope to go someday. It looks breathtakingly beautiful! Maybe someday I'll make it there!!!
There's room for all. Come visist when you get your "windfall"
Sounds very nice, kinda like the United States....circa 1950. My home town in Georgia used to be that way. That was a very long time ago.
I think when we lose perspective of all that we have to be thankful for, those things mysteriously begin to wither away. It's refreshing to reflect upon them. One should do it daily.
Long ago in a sociology class in college, we were told that socially, we were about 10 years behind the US. I remember thinking. "Great. Now we can learn from their mistakes."
It's like having hindsight, only if we did anything about it, we could call it foresight."
Our community hangs on to these values by practicing them. Daily, in small ways, that make big differences.
I love my community.
It sounds like you have found your own slice of heaven. My father was raised in a small farming community. He had no desire to stay and farm like his father and brother. So, he went to school and became a dentist and moved to the city. Now that city has grown 400% since then and I live here with my children. But you know, even with everything that brings, I couldn't imagine living in that little community where he was raised. Maybe it is a lesson on the unintended things we pass on to our kids.
wow. all i can say is wow. theres a tv program over here (uk) which folows this guy live off the land in dorset (where i live) but north dorset away ffrom the crowds and chaos (ha) of poole and bournemouth and one day, when im old and have lived in the Maldives, Australia and Canada iw ant to move back to my home county and live on a small farm drinking cider and eating cheese.
but thats rightg at the end of my life, in the autumn as it were. in the mean time i plan on traveling the world.. all the way around without yusing planes. and canada is a big part of those plans. If you ever get a chance read the hatceht series of books by a guy called Gary Paulsen. Granted they are kinda kids books, but their fun little short reads about surviving in the vast forests of Canada and those (among other books) and things like your post here have really inspired me to spend a chunk of my life at some point in such a wonderfull place as you have there.
im only young at the moment and have my whole life ahead of me, which is why i dont intend to waste it working a terrible office job, being in the same place all my life. I figure its all Gods doughnuts... he will provide for me in one way or another and it really is on my heart to travel that i will get there. Mark my words i will get there.
Awesome.
