And it's been on my mind ever since.
All around me is glaring evidence of my contribution to the destruction of our environment.

like changing my ink cartridge......
Have I, at some level, accepted that some day,
my ancestors will live compromised lives because of it?
Does my inaction make a statement that I feel it is inevitable,
or, even sadder, I won't be around for the consequences.
I think it does, really.
And that saddens me.
We all have said or heard sometimes in our lives,
"It's not our fault that this was done, we weren't even born,
we can't be held accountable for what we didn't do!"
Will my ancestors shake their heads in bewilderment when they learn we could have stopped and reversed this destruction, and didn't?
Currently, we attempt to right past wrongs by offering apologies, settlements and restitution, and attempting to move on.
What kind of apology, settlement or restitution can be offered, when we have destroyed the environment? How will they move on?
When did we lose focus of the stewardship that humans have with our planet?
When did I accept practices that destroy our future?
Why do I accept practices that destroy our future?
Can we ignore the signs we see and experience, and just hope for the best?
gina asked, what do we do?
I commented that:
I am the majority.
I look good on paper, follow the rules
but rarely am I put out by my efforts.
You have got me pondering gina, and better yet have got me worried.
I think we all need to be worried.
Just think of our reputation.
Do we really want to be known as the
Generations that fiddled while Rome burned??

I am sooo with you on "I look good on paper!"
And I am troubled by the same possibility of having future generations shaking their heads with sadness at how we destroyed our planet...when we had everything in our power to prevent the destruction.
What do we do when the ones who care about Earth...are not the ones running things? We have the power to change things as a collective...but not nearly the power as our money-grubbing leaders. And in the end, which side will win? The "profit-means-more-than-life" money-grubbers...or the "please-save-Earth-QUICK" pleaders?
Thought-provoking post. Yes, I know there is SO much more I could do. We finally got a composter and are trying to recycle more, but it's only scratching the surface.
I think it is a sense of powerlessness that people feel, that they can't do much on a grass-roots level. They think, well, if I recycle, what about the hundreds of others that don't? So what does my puny contribution mean?
We need to get some strength in numbers, write our representatives, write businesses, whatever we can.
I will admit I look good on paper as well, but it is time I stood up for this planet, and that is exactly what I am going to do.
doesnt even look good on paper :(

I agree - we definitely have to be conscientious of our actions and the future repercussions of same for our environment. Ido small scale stuff such as recycling...but I am sure there is so much more I could do...
