The worst part of turning 50 was watching my back,
cause you know what they say about payback.....but in the end,
it was the cree princess who led me straight into a wonderful surprise.
During our birthday supper the darling said,
oh gramma, I want to go see "Cars"
and despite my protests of being tired, how about Saturday, etc,
my daughter convinced me I could sleep at the theatre,(cause I always do) so off we went.
The theatre was full of friends and family, which took me a while to catch on.
All of the godkids were there, with exception of the oldest, who made his presence known, with the film he put together.
It played on the big screen.
There is nothing more humbling than seeing yourself and friends in lime green minis and gogo boots ,on the large screen with the exception of realizing how very lucky you are to have these people in your life.
My friends interviewed each other, shared embarassing moments (mine, not theirs) and of course my mom supplied necessary baby and childhood pictures.
My god kids shared moments, like really being fooled by my rabbits laying chocolate eggs, and being bailed out of trouble and enduring my lectures.
We laughed and laughed and laughed.
And I did not fall asleep.
At the end, I opened 50 indentical packages... all homemade frames with pictures and notes from my life, of the people I love.

This one is from my daughter,

which had a note that she had written to me years ago.

Or this one, when we rescued the pelican with the broken wing.....

They are kind of crooked, made by my godkids,
from scraps ,in the woodshop.......
which will drive me endlessly crazy,
but I will think about them as I straighten their pictures when I walk down the halls.

I can hardly wait for the next 50 years.
