As well as breath taking beauty,
we have high speed internet..... wooohoooo.
So here we are, tucked into beautiful Kananaskis Country,
( Kan an as kiss)
home of the wandering Stoney Indian,
World Class ski resorts, and a former POW camp in WW2.
My paternal grandfather, a Brit by birth and shepherd by profession
re-enlisted in the 2nd WW, after serving in Europe in the first WW.
Many Canadians re enlisted, but because of their age (early 40's),
they were deemed too old for the battle field.
They formed their own battalion, and served as prison guards.
My grandfather was stationed here, in Kananaskis Country.
Both prisoners and guards survived in canvas tents,
through bitter winters, and scorching summers, in the middle of this wilderness.
A mere string of barbed wire circled the thousands of acres of camp,
so formidable was the land that few escape attempts were made.
As sit in my cozy chair, looking out at the starry night,
I am thankful for brave men like my grandfather,
and still pray for peace.
I'll be zipping around in the fast lane, to visit yall.

I had to come here when I saw your comment tonight. All I could think was, I bet Hope has high speed internet where she's staying!
I thank all veterans, even though I wish there weren't any, if you know what I mean!
