I am not a big fan of Valentines day, no big tragic reason,
I just think of it of one of those useless, potentially fragile holidays.
I began really disliking the holiday when I was a
Child Care Director.
60 children giving Valentines to each other,
60 children giving Valentines to each other,
(you do the math...)
that would get crammed in a folder.....
that would get crammed in a folder.....
by child care staff who had better things to do,
never to be seen again,
while somewhere an acre of forest disappeared.
never to be seen again,
while somewhere an acre of forest disappeared.
So, I read gina's Saturday rant, and it got me thinking
about the impact of this holiday on our environment.
The list is endless, add to it in your comments,
cause I am throwing a challenge your way.
Pass it on.
Especially to your partner, he'll be relieved.
Just how attached are you to Valentines Day????
Could you give your partner a break and contribute to saving our planet??
Just think......
No air transport of flowers
Fuel for greenhouse and delivery trucks
Save trees and the dumps.... don't pass out useless valentines.
Emails... what about the power????
Meals out... gas again.
You get my drift.
Are you up for it???
So..... I ask you.......
How are you going to share the love with our planet on the 14th?

LOL! Procrastinating again??
How about we turn off all the lights, sit by the fire with a few candles and a battery powered radio? Then eat leftovers so, no cooking?
I may have to give this more thought!
yep, procrasting again....
it's kind of a drag my butt, still feeling slightly beaten, day.
But it's got merit.... I can assure you that most of the good ideas in this world have been the result of someone daydreaming while avoiding drudgery.
If someone would pay me for this, and do my housework, I could come up with this kind of brillance all day long.:)
We don't go for Valentine's Day at all. Never really have.
It could also be because we are poor! ;)
I like Liz's idea, by the way!
Great idea. Now if I can convince the kids to be the "only ones" in the classroom not to hand out cards. Or perhaps we'll bake cookies. Hmmm...
It's not hard convincing hubby - we don't bother much with V Day anyway. He shows his love by making me supper. :-)
Hubby and I have never really gotten into Valentines Day. Depends on the year. I think it is more important to keep Love in our hearts all year long, and not just one day. Smiles.
I think Ill start boycotting V-Day.
It was never a favorite Holiday for me either, no reason in particular.
I think I have some old V-day cards somewhere that my boys can reuse...hehehh
I think it, like so many others, is just a holiday dreamed up by Hallmark and companies looking to make money - of course I say this cause I am usually boyfriendless come Valentine's Day and all the expectations are there...and to be the only one in the office that gets Nada....well, it shouldn't be a big deal, but it can potentially be. :( Anyway, I do think it is highly overrated but it would be hard to not participate or have your child not participate when everyone else does....
My husband and I have never done more than go out to eat on Valentine's day. And never to somewhere expensive.
My kids do give out the little cards to their classmates. Potential social disasters there are well worth the the little scraps of paper valentines. And because I leave my computer on all the time anyway..I don't think the ecards sent to cousins use that much more power.
